Social Security’s Analysis of Specific Medical Conditions– A Client’s Guide

A skilled Social Security attorney should not only understand the complexities of the law, but also know how to read and interpret medical evidence. At McCroskey Law, our lawyers can explain medical issues as easily as legal ones. We have the ability and skill needed to understand your personal situation, and guide you through the Social Security Disability and SSI claims process.

It cannot be emphasized enough that ongoing medical care is important to a Social Security case. In order to receive benefits, a claimant must be able to provide medical evidence that documents and supports a claim for disability. While there are times when your lawyer may consider sending you to a one-time medical evaluation, consistent treatment from your own medical doctor or mental health provider is much more valuable.

Under Social Security law, all of a claimant’s medically determinable conditions must be considered, including minor health problems. Even though your knee, back, or asthma alone might not be disabling, these conditions may cumulatively prevent you from working. However, these conditions must be “medically determinable”– there must be medical evidence supporting and explaining your symptoms.

If you cannot afford medical treatment, there are low-cost medical clinics that may be able to help. For a list of low-cost medical clinics, click here.

Additionally, claimants with very severe medical conditions may meet a Social Security Medical Listing. The Medical Listings set out specific, severe symptoms and findings that are related to certain conditions. If a claimant meets the criteria of a Medical Listing, they should be granted Social Security benefits.

At McCroskey Law, you will undergo a detailed interview process, which helps us understand all of your medical conditions. We will review all of your relevant medical records, and evaluate your case under the Medical Listings. We know that our clients deserve the best. If you need help with a Social Security Disability or SSI claim, contact us today. We are here for you.
