How Long Will I Have to Wait for My Social Security Hearing?

In the early 2000’s, there was a catastrophic backlog at the Social Security hearing offices. People were frequently waiting over two years for a hearing. McCroskey Law’s Social Security attorneys tried to expedite cases as much as possible, but many people were stuck waiting.

Fortunately, Social Security has worked hard to help resolve the backlog. New judges, new hearing sites, and video conferencing systems have significantly reduced a disabled person’s waiting time.

As of June, 2013, claimants are waiting an average of 11 months in Grand Rapids and Lansing for a hearing. In Mount Pleasant, claimants are waiting an average of 10 months.
